Sustainable Business
The Master of Sustainable Business major at Chatham University combines the study of environmental stewardship with business management, preparing students to integrate sustainable practices and Environmental Social and Governance (ESG) criteria into all aspects of business. Through a collaboration between the Falk School of Sustainability and Environment (FSSE) and the School of Business and Enterprise (SBE), students gain expertise in sustainable business topics such as carbon accounting, supply chains, energy systems, and high-performance buildings, among other areas. OTHER APPLICATIONS OF SUSTAINABLE BUSINESS
Policy Development
At the forefront of the fight against challenges like climate change is the development of strategies and policies in the business world to mitigate and reverse the damage being done. Our sustainable business program prepares students to develop carbon-neutral strategies and policies for corporate and community resilience.
Product Innovation
We believe in the intersection between sustainability practices and business optimization. Part of this intersection is the development of products with a lower carbon footprint as driven by a Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) and cradle to cradle approach. Our students will be able to apply their understanding of sustainable business. practices to develop products in that fit this ideological framework.
Urban Development
Growing is the need for energy-efficient solutions into high-performance building and design operations. One way our sustainable business students can apply their knowledge is in the sector of urban development. Students will be equipped to take part in intertwining sustainability into the designs of our future cities, buildings, and infrastructure.
GIS Systems
Harnessing the power of Geographic Information Systems (GIS) to assist in resolving location-driven sustainability challenges will be one of many ways that students can apply our curriculum to pursue positive change and find sustainable solutions in the future.

The Future of Sustainable Business
This major directly addresses sustainability challenges by preparing students to understand and mitigate the ESG impacts of business operations. Through coursework that spans ecological principles, the U.N. sustainable development goals (SDGs), and project management practices, students learn how to create value in ways that are environmentally responsible and socially equitable. The collaboration between FSSE and SBE provides a fundamentally interdisciplinary and holistic perspective, blending ecological science with the skills needed to lead in the business world. By equipping students with tools for analyzing and tackling challenges such as reducing carbon footprints, improving energy systems, and building more sustainable supply chains, the program contributes to shaping a business landscape that prioritizes long-term social, ecological, and economic health.
